Site Update: Store online

Thu, 30 Dec 2010

I've got my store up and running and configured pretty close to how I want it. Now people can purchase my paintings directly from me with just a couple of clicks. So easy! Shipping costs have been worked out for US, Canada and the EU. Will be adding all the rest of the countries shortly. I'll also be setting up taxation rules for German-based corporate buyers. Only individuals must pay the VAT for artworks (reduced rate 7%). Of course, all non-German commerce has no VAT obligation!

Next on my to-do list is to give some attention to this blog layout. The structure of Drupal blogging is nothing at all like Wordpress, which I'm more familiar with, having setup and customized several Wordpress blogs for my web development customers. However, Drupal can do about a thousand other things besides blogging. I like that because I'm not boxed into any pre-conceived blogging format. The cool thing about Drupal is that each 'blog' entry is the same as a page/story data structure. With that in mind, I could 'blog' about some interesting aspect of a given painting I'm working on, but this content could automatically be linked to, or perhaps directly included on the painting's detail page. Same thing with the categories.

So many ideas, so little time. First things first: keep busy in the studio. The web comes after all that. It's challenging to integrate everything into an online existence when, for me, the flesh and blood existence is where it's at. One reason why I paint, anyway.

Happy new year :)
